These 220 cards were available via a coupon randomly seeded into 2001 Donruss baseball packs at stated odds of 1:720. Consumers that pulled the Baseball's Best coupon (or bought it off the secondary market) then had to mail it into Donruss prior to the January 20th, 2002 deadline to receive a factory sealed set 330-card set (of which contained the 220-card Baseball's Best set plus the 110-card Baseball's Best "The Rookies" set. The consumer did not know upon mailing in the coupon whether he or she would be receiving the Bronze, Silver or Gold version of the set of which were disseminated randomly. The 330 cards are glossy-coated parallels of the 220-card basic 2001 Donruss set and the 110-card 2001 Donruss the Rookies set. Only 99 Gold sets were created, with each factory set box carrying serial-numbering on it (though the actual cards are not serial-numbered at all).
